The 46th Annual Chisholm Trail Roundup June 7-9

The 46th Annual Chisholm Trail Roundup kicks off in Lockhart this week when approximately 15,000 people are expected to gather to celebrate the town’s rich heritage and place along the famed Chisholm Trail cattle-trading route.

This year’s festivities begin on Wednesday, June 6 when the Chuck Wagon rolls into Lockhart’s downtown square where all are invited to enjoy a traditional cowboy breakfast of eggs, bacon and biscuits cooked over a fire. Breakfast will be served from 6:30-9:00 a.m. and cost $5.

The three-day carnival opens at Lockhart City Park on Thursday at 5 p.m. Enjoy a new Kids’ Zone this year where children can enjoy a complimentary petting zoo, barrel train rides, pig races and spear throwing demonstrations from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Also new this year will be the annual Chili and BBQ cook-offs, which have been moved to coincide with the Roundup so more people can enjoy.

Thursday highlights will include the annual crowning of the Chisholm Trail Roundup Queen, team roping at the rodeo arena, and live music provided by theLockhart Area Music Association at the new and improved main stage.

Friday night is Tejano music night with the sounds of Gary Hobbs and Lucky Joe Eguia, Gates open at 5 p.m., and the rodeo begins at 7 p.m.

Saturday’s events kick off with the Grand Parade at 10 a.m. in the downtown square. Saturday night is Texas Country Night featuring Jake Ward, Kody West and Mike Ryan.

Daily general admission into the festival is $5 per adult; children 12 and under are free. Rodeo entrance Friday and Saturday is $5. Advanced wristband packages are available providing access to all three days of the festival and rodeo for only $10 and can be purchased online at www.chisholmtrailroundup.com or at the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce.

The biggest weekend in Lockhart each year, the Chisholm Trail Roundup is just one example of how our historic town is working to preserve our past as our community continues to grow and change, welcoming an influx of new families and businesses and proudly nurturing a blossoming arts scene.
